Weideland GSPs has access to training on wild birds in the following areas:
North Dakota (Summer - Winter)
South Dakota (Early Fall - Late Fall)
Kansas (Late Winter - Spring)
Weideland GSPs has trained dogs on wild birds in TX, GA, MN, KS, SD, ND, OK, NM & MT.
We believe that training on wild birds is key to developing your dog into a superior bird dog. At Weideland GSPs we believe in training and raising versatile bird dogs- and expose them to as much as we can while they are in our care.
We just wrapped up our 2017 winter training with a great mix of older dogs and young pups taking advantage of this opportunity- English pointers, German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, and Setters were ran and exposed to a daily fill of quail and pheasant. Thanks to our training partner Rich for all his hard work and dedication finding the best spots for our dogs to train and excel!
If your dog is in our care, he/she will be treated like one of our family. We have a sheltered kennel run with room to stretch their legs or the chance to take a rest in their house. We send photo updates and keep in contact with each owner to give them the ease of mind that they made the right choice in choosing Weideland GSPs to train and care for their dog. Our main goal is to give your dog the opportunity they deserve on wild birds to build their drive and want to hunt as they are naturally born and bred to do.
Our training simulates true hunting situations. We train on large rangeland tracks that are full of all kinds of wild birds and we train on foot! We train with beeper collars, e-collars, gps collars, and do not restrict a dog from covering ground. Our goal for young dogs is to get them into as many bird situations as possible and to make sure they cooperate and handle (low pressure to build bold, confident, hard driving dogs). They will be ran alone and with other dogs. For older dogs our goal is to make them a polished team player. We will teach them Whoa!, stop to flush, work on backing and honoring, and make sure their manners are in order and style is looking good.
